Besides design models Profmodels builds functional models, which in addition to the visual part also has one or more functions. This may be a moving train, a building with integrated electrical light and removable walls, or a ship with movable cranes.
Functional models can be of great value in the process of creating new products and architectural projects. This provides a unique opportunity to test the product in "real life" and assess how form and function works in relation to the specific application. Functional models are also used for teaching purposes, where a model can give the student a realistic user-experience.
Profmodels builds design models used in museums and companies, as part of marketing, for teaching purposes or historical works. The models are produced from the original drawings and built in selected materials such as artificial wood, glass, brass, iron, aluminum, nickel silver, acrylic and PVC - all materials which are compatible together and withstand temperature fluctuations and moisture.
The scale of the models differs, depending on the purpose of the model. Profmodels has built models in scale 1:1 and down to 1:1000. The models are built with great accuracy and numerous details that make the models completely lifelike. The customer determines the level of detail.
As the models, in some cases, must be moved between different exhibitions around the world, it is important that the models are stable. Profmodels does not compromise, when it comes to quality
– a model is build to last for 100 years.
- Scale Model: Maasvlakte II container port and
Maersk Triple-E container ship
- Scale: 1:500
- Dimensions: L=2500mm, W=350mm, H=2000mm
(Vertical wall fixing)
- Working hours: 1700 hours
Profmodels has for AP Moller-Maersk A/ S built a giant model, which exactly shows, how the fully automatic container port Maasvlakte II is functioning. The port is exclusively operated by robots. Have a look at the pictures showing the model and the real container port – “we have all the details!”.
- Scale Model: Scandlines Hybrid ferries MF Copenhagen and MF Berlin
- Scale: 1:200
- Dimensions: L= 850mm, B=125mm, H= 275mm
- Working Hours: 922 hours
- Exhibited at Scandlines Denmark A/S head office
For Scandlines Denmark A/S Profmodels built models of the Scandlines Hybrid ferries. The Hybrid ferries run between Gedser and Rostock in an environmentally friendly manner.
- Functional Model: Metrostation Nuuks Plads, Nørrebro
- Scale: 1:25
- Dimensione: L=1927mm B=483mm H=796mm
- Material: Allucore (“corrugated cardboard” in aluminum)
- Working Hours: 732 hours
- Today the model is placed in the head office of Metro Selskabet I/S
For Metro Selskabet I/S Profmodels has built a functional model of the Metro Station Nuuks Plads, Nørrebro, which will be completed in 2019. The model is constructed so that it is possible to replace the walls and "play" with different colors and lighting. The model is so accurate that the escalators have the same number of steps as on the original architectural drawings. The staircases are built in nickel silver, which neatly, gives the illusion of shiny aluminum.
- Scale Model: Maersk Triple-E container ship
- Scale: 1:48
-Weight: 1.5.2 ton
- Dimensions: L=8300mm, W=1300mm, H=2800mm
- Working hours: 1700 hours
- Today the model is placed in the Maritime Museum in Helsingør/Denmark
The worlds largest ship model, the Maersk Triple-E container ship, is built by Profmodels. One of the sides of the model is open, so you can see, how the ship is constructed with a double hull like the real ship. If the ship did not have this opening, you would be able to launch the ship with 10 men aboard. The ship model weighs almost 2 tons, and when the ship was lifted by a crane, a glass wall had to be removed at the Maritime Museum in Helsingør/Denmark, where you will find the model today.

That is how it was in 1969, when Andersen & Meyer was founded, and this is still the case today - now under the name of Profmodels.
Profmodels is built on expertise that goes back more than 100 years and has evolved through three acquired companies. Craftsmanship is the center of all that we do, and modern technology is used to a limited extent only to improve the quality and the level of detail. Our standard is "museum quality" and the models are built to last for100 years.
At Profmodels we build many different types of models - from ship models of the Maersk fleet and Scandlines hybrid ferries to models of Metro Stations and prototypes of design products e.g. B & O.
Our models are used as design models in museums and companies, but also as functional models for architects and designers, where different solutions with light, material and form have to be visualized.
All work is done with the utmost respect for the given task, a passion for craftsmanship and the pursuit of how detailed you can build the model.
”No one can imagine what a job as ours implies, but once you have tried it, you do not want to work with anything else in the world. Most people look forward to the weekend to begin - we always look forward to Monday morning”
